What is the Difference between a Bcba and an Rbt in Home-based Therapy?
In our In-Home ABA Therapy model, the difference between a BCBA and an RBT lies in their specific responsibilities and level of oversight. These two roles work in a close, collaborative partnership to ensure your child receives high-quality, evidence-based care.
Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA):
- Role: Acts as the clinical supervisor and program designer.
- Responsibilities: We have our BCBAs conduct initial assessments, design personalized behavior intervention plans, and provide ongoing oversight. They are responsible for making data-driven adjustments to the plan as your child progresses.
- Requirements: These professionals hold a graduate degree, have completed extensive supervised fieldwork, and have passed the national BCBA exam.
Registered Behavior Technician (RBT):
- Role: Provides the direct, one-on-one therapy sessions with your child.
- Responsibilities: RBTs implement the specific intervention plans created by the BCBA. During ABA At Home sessions, they follow the prescribed routines and collect detailed data to track your child’s daily progress.
- Requirements: RBTs must complete a 40-hour training program, pass a competency assessment conducted by a BCBA, and pass the RBT exam. They always practice under the close, ongoing supervision of a BCBA.
This structure ensures that expert oversight is paired with hands-on delivery, creating a Warm and Welcoming Environment where we focus on Small Steps That Yield Big Results.
